Tickets are required for all of the Festival of Books indoor panel and speaker sessions. Tickets for the 2009 Festival of Books will become available on Sunday, April 19, 2009, at 12 noon through Ticketmaster.com for a nominal fee of $.75 per ticket. Tickets will also be available at select Southern California Ticketmaster locations including select Macy’s locations, Ritmo Latino, at the Beverly Center’s information booth. These tickets are free with a $.75 service charge both online and participating retailers. In the interest of promoting literacy, Ticketmaster has reduced its normal service charges to this nominal amount.

What ticketing policies must I adhere to?
Ticketed attendees must be in their seats 10 minutes before the session begins, or risk losing their places to "stand-bys." Thus, seats cannot be "saved" less than 10 minutes before the session is to begin.

Can I get tickets at the festival?
A limited number of tickets will be available at the festival on-site ticket location near the Poetry Stage from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 27. Please note that tickets for Saturday sessions can only be picked up on Saturday; Sunday tickets can only be picked up on Sunday. Tickets will be distributed at the on-site location up to 30 minutes before sessions.

    What is the "Stand-By" line?
Festival of Books attendees who do not have tickets may wait in the designated "Stand-By" line outside each session room. Those attendees will be admitted to the room on a first-come, first-served basis if seats are unclaimed by ticketed guests 10 minutes prior to the start of that session. With highly popular sessions the stand-by line can be long, and does not guarantee entrance into a panel.

    How do I return tickets?
People who do not plan to use tickets they obtain are urged to return them to the nearest participating Ticketmaster outlet by Thursday, April 24, at 5 p.m., or to the on-site ticket booth at the festival up to one hour before each session.

Am I guaranteed a seat if I have a ticket?
Not necessarily. Ticketed guests must be seated 10 minutes before the scheduled start time of their session. Ticketed attendees who do not arrive within the 10 minute time limit, risk losing their seats to those in the "Stand-By" line. Consequently, seats cannot be "saved."
